Whole O’s™ Cereal
Brown rice flour*, corn flour*, evaporated cane juice*, pomegranate juice concentrate*, sea salt. *Organic. Produced in a facility that uses peanuts, tree nuts and soy.
The front says "Lightly sweetened with pomegranate juice." I had previously come to expect "Nature's Path" not to lead me astray, and I neglected to check the ingredients at the store. It may indeed be "lightly sweetened with pomegranate juice," but it's also heavily sweetened with cane sugar--listed before the juice in the ingredients, but nowhere on the front of the package. I will be tread on Nature's Path more carefully in the future.
My husband picked these up the other day and when I got the munchies last night I decided to give them a try. Boy was I ever in for a shock. I could not believe they were so sweet. I told my husband these were not a healthy breakfast cereal but pure junk food wrapped up in a marketing package designed to dupe consumers. I'm sure if you added milk, the sweetness would seem diluted and maybe even tolerable. They may be organic (non GMO) and gluten free but all the rest is exactly the same crap that the processed food industry has been peddaling for years. They contain both sugar and salt and use corn flour and cane juice (both really bad for raising blood sugar and causing inflammation). I feel bad for the Mom whose review I read that won`t eat unsweetened cheerios or feed them to her infant. It is tragic that this child is already addicted to sugary treats at such a young age. I will continue to eat HEALTHY oat groats or steel cut oats (gluten free and organic) with significantly more fiber and no sugar. I use fresh or frozen berries as my sweetener. No spikes in blood sugar and no inflammation. Wake up people! You have to look past the hype you are being sold.
However am avoiding folic acid, and cannot find out if there is folic acid in it. If there is folate I'm good to go. It's hard to find out how to correspond and ask a dietician from Nature's Path. I combine these Whole O's with chia seeds, fruit, whole foods almond milk, or homemade almond milk, a little maple syrup and I'm not hungry for hours. Thank you Nature's Path for making this Non GMO, GF, low sugar , tasty cereal. Just wish I could find it when I travel. I have to take it with me.
